With the release of CerteroX v9, the API now supports both **READ** and **WRITE** functionality. The attached guide provides basic instruction on using the API.

> ℹ️ **API capabilities by version**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ What the API supports depends on your Certero version. Please check yours before integrating.
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ [Certero v10 onwards] **Read & write-back, with a changed user model.** Everything in v9, plus users are now returned through **Person**, with Active Directory and Entra ID as the directory sources behind it. **ADUserObjectId** is replaced by **PersonObjectId**, so existing queries that reference it need updating before you upgrade.

> ℹ️ [Certero v9 onwards] **Read & write-back.** Everything in v8, plus write-back for User-Defined Fields (UDFs) and User-Defined Assets (UDAs) **only** — create and update them via the API.
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ [Certero v8] **Read-only.** Query and export data only. Nothing can be written back to Certero through the API.

## Changelog

Updates to the Certero API and this guide. Most recent first.

### Certero v10 [Changed] *September 2026*

**User identity model updated for Entra ID support.**

- Users are now returned through `Person`, with Active Directory and Entra ID as the directory sources behind it.
- `ADUserObjectId` is replaced by `PersonObjectId` throughout the API.
- New entity sets are available: `Person`, `EntraUser`, `EntraGroup`, `EntraGroupMember` and `EntraOrganisation`.

> ❌ **Action required.** Any integration that references `ADUserObjectId` must be updated to use `PersonObjectId` before you upgrade to v10.

### Certero v9 [New] *June 2026*

**Write-back API introduced.**

- The API can create and update User-Defined Fields (UDFs) and User-Defined Assets (UDAs).
- These are the only writable items. All other endpoints remain read-only.
- Part of the Certero v9 release, which also introduces new AI functionality and bug fixes.

### Certero v8 [New] *28th January 2022*

**Initial release of the read-only API.**

- Query and export data only. Nothing can be written back to Certero through the API.
- API guide published, covering authentication and basic usage.
